Wake Up Call Message on Broken Policy Amendment

Wake Up Call Message: Broken Policy Amendment

Wake Up Call Message

Topic: Broken Policy Amendment

Scripture Reference: Judges 21:1–25

In Judges 21, we find the Israelites grappling with the consequences of an oath they had taken — one that would result in the exclusion of an entire tribe, Benjamin, due to an act of abomination. Stricken by the reality of a broken brotherhood, they came together, built an altar, and sought the Lord’s direction. Without a king, they still managed to resolve their conflict through godly fellowship and communal sacrifice.

In today’s Kenya, we face a similar situation. In August 2010, we collectively took an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution, a document built upon the worship of Almighty God, the Maker of heaven and earth, and rooted in the sovereignty of the people.

The Problem

Unfortunately, our leaders — across various levels of authority — have repeatedly violated this sacred foundation by dividing us along tribal lines whenever an individual commits an offence. Instead of isolating individual guilt, communities are punished and separated, breaking the unity we vowed to protect.

This betrayal of the Constitution’s spirit contradicts the bloodless path we chose — a path of peace, righteousness, and collective joy. It reveals a deeper issue: a broken policy amendment process.

The Challenge

We are failing to review and practice the very policies we adopted. Kenya’s constitutional journey must evolve — through regular reviews every 5 to 10 years, ensuring policies are amended through inclusive public participation. These reviews should strengthen our coexistence, deepen our independence, and secure our freedoms.

The Solution

We must:

  • Accommodate the needs of the current generation.
  • Correct conflicts of interest that divide us.
  • Seek guidance from the Lord in both governance and citizenship.

Without divine direction, as seen in Judges 21:25 — “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit” — our nation risks descending into anarchy. We must not allow policy gaps or neglected reforms to open doors to lawlessness and tribal enmity.

A Call to Action

Let us rise to the challenge of checking on each other — leaders and citizens alike. We must unite public and private sectors, from learners to professionals. Each of us holds a responsibility and must uphold both liability and accountability.

True national unity is impossible without the love of our Maker. Without God’s love guiding us, we lose the compassion and wisdom to resolve conflict in humane and godly ways.

Let us rebuild the altar. Let us offer truth, love, and fellowship. Let us amend broken policies and heal our broken unity.

Wake up, Kenya. The time for reflection and action is now.
